'When Autumn was placed in my arms, I felt euphoric...'

When you’re pregnant, you often find yourself thinking about the end and going into labour. When I found out I was pregnant, my first thoughts were of being terrified of giving birth and going through labour. You always seem to read horror stories about it and it really puts the fear of God into you. Eventually, I became less afraid as I realised the baby needs to come out one way or the other. What was the point in letting those thoughts and fears consume me the entire 40 or so weeks? As a first time mum, I had no idea what services would be available to me or that I could even have a choice between a home birth, birth at a midwife led unit or in the delivery suite. As time went on, we discovered all of these snippets of information and formed a birthing plan.

'I trusted that when the time came, my body would know what to do...'

As a first time mum and as someone who has suffered with anxiety for a number of years, I was understandably very nervous about giving birth for the first time in 2019. I had heard of hypnobirthing and was recommended Babies in Waiting by a friend, I thought anything to keep me calm could only be positive! I signed up for our Babies in Waiting course with Vicky and it was the best decision I made! I attribute it to why I had such a positive birth.

With my first daughter I decided I wanted to try out hypnobirthing and have as ‘natural’ a birth as possible. My labour started with my waters breaking and what followed was a 26 hour labour which ended in forceps, despite all that I didn’t have any pain relief and really benefitted from the techniques I learnt from my Babies in Waiting course.

My breastfeeding journey.

I have two children, a daughter Rebecca who is six and a son Sebastian who is four months old and my two breast feeding journeys have been completely different.  When I fell pregnant with my little boy I was determined not to make the same mistakes I made with my daughter 6 years ago.
